In general, one out of every five Sri Lankan households owns either a desktop or a laptop computer. It was 22.9% in 2021 (the entire year), but fell to 22.1% in the first six months of 2022. Sri Lanka households faced massive economic challenges in 2022. It had a negative impact across all the regions, including more wealthy western provinces.

Meantime, the Computer literacy rate has improved from 2021 (34.3%) to 2022 (35.7%), which has become very much important in day-to-day life.
