High borrowing costs, the underperformance of economic activities along with the high level of NPL have further contracted credit to the private sector by LKR 108Bn in January. This is one of the biggest contractions in a single month and the contraction is continued for the eighth consecutive month.

Net credit to the government is being grown close to an amount of LKR 140Bn on average per month for the last eight months.
