Sri Lanka public debt increased from USD 79.9Bn to USD 83.60Bn during the second half of the 2022

Public debt consists of Central Government debt, Guaranteed SOEs Debt, and CBSL debt. The total debt is further categorized as Multilateral Debt, Bilateral Debt, and private debt. It is learned that private debt issued in local currency has increased by USD 4Bn during the second half of 2022.

Local currency private debt accounted for Treasury Bills and Treasury Bonds issued by the Central Bank on behalf of the government. Multilateral and bilateral debts have increased marginally, while private debt in foreign currency has fallen during this period.
