Sri Lanka's trade deficit widened by USD 2Bn in 2021 compared to 2020, as exports declined due to COVID-19 but the country was able to improve the exports by 5% in 2022. Furthermore, the imports were restricted to safeguard the reserves, resulting in a visible decline of imports by 11% in 2022.
