The FX liquidity dried out due to the weakened FX inflows, especially in 1st half of 2022. CBSL sold a net of USD 610Mn during 1H of 2022, while it sold another USD 737Mn in the last quarter of 2021. But the situation got improved in 2H of 2022 when CBSL managed to become a net purchase of USD 25Mn.

Sri Lanka has suspended selected external payments including interest and principal payments for ISBs and bilateral debts. Over USD 1,800 Mn in debt payments are now outstanding for ISBs and SLDBs.
