The construction sector accounted for nearly 9% of Sri Lanka’s GDP (current price) and contributed substantially to the supply of employment as well. The Government is said to owe around LKR 200Bn to contractors for work already carried out.

This is due for nearly three years and the present government has promised to pay LKR 40 Bn within this year and the balance to be repaid via a payment plan.
