The government’s decision to suspend recruitment to the public sector and the announcement of the mandatory requirement of retirement at the age of 60 years were changed from time to time. The Public sector cadre fell in 2018 and 2021 marginally.

Some countries that had to adopt domestic debt restructuring due to financial crises had to freeze public sector wage bills during their debt restructuring process. Eg. Saint Kitts and Nevis debt restructuring
