Sri Lanka recorded the highest ever fish export revenue in 2021, with the help of price increases in the global market and the quantum of imports has been declining since 2015 despite cost increases. This has resulted to produce net trade plus again from 2017.

Export earnings from Seafood increased by 130.75% in June 2022 compared to June 2021. The expansion was contributed mainly by higher exports of Frozen fish (89.3%), Fresh fish (219.18%) and Shrimps (219.25%).
