In Sri Lanka, 17.9% of the population is older than 59 years, making it the country with the highest proportion of older adults in South Asia. The Western province, the highest populated region's elderly percentage is at 18.9%, the highest is in Sabaragamuwa 19.8%, while the Eastern Province has the least at 11.9% as per the latest HHIE survey data.
