CBSL in surprised move allowed primary market interest rates to jumped by 0.70% to 1.40%

The Treasury bill auction rates jumped at the primary auction ahead of the Monetary policy meeting on Friday. 91Days T-Bill jumped from 8.61% to 9.33% and 182Days from 8.53% to 9.88% and 364days from 8.53% to 9.95%. Yields have moved toward double digits which were seen three years back.

Despite allowing primary rates to increase, CBSL managed to sell only a handful amount of 364Days Bills at the auction, which suggests the current premium is still not enough for investors to buy the longer-term T-bills.
