Sri Lanka ranked above 100 in the Global Peace Index before 2015. The country recorded its best ranking in 2017, which is 70th place. But the country fell three places down in 2019 and another four places down in 2020. Bhutan, the most peaceful country in the SAAR region, is ranked 19th overall, while Afghanistan is the least peaceful country on the GPI. Bangladesh recorded the South Asian region’s biggest increase in peacefulness over the last year.
