The Global Food Security Index (GFSI) considers the issues of food affordability, availability, quality and safety, and natural resources and resilience across a set of 113 countries. Sri Lanka has been losing the rankings in the Global food security Index over the past several years, despite index value increase in 2018. The key reason for the steep decline of ranking in 2020 is the deterioration of food affordability by people. About 70 countries slip in 2020 GFSI rankings because of rising costs.
