Sri Lanka tourism far too lagging with just USD 23Mn in the first half of 2021
Sri Lanka saw a considerable downfall in the tourism industry due to the COVID outbreak and only managed to host 16,908 tourists by the end of June 2021. What used to be an impressive USD 4Bn annual turnover has now fallen to USD 23Mn in the first half of 2021. Even though the second half is expected to show improvement in global tourism, the UNCTAD report still shows a loss of between USD 1.7 trillion to $2.4 trillion in 2021 compared to 2019.
