After conducting accommodative monetary policy for 32 months, CBSL turned to tighten the availability of money for credit by increasing the SDFR & SLFR by 0.50% and SRR by 2.0%. CBSL expects these monetary policy decisions to iron out the prevailing imbalances in the domestic financial markets and the external sector of the economy. Further, it expects to absorb the large amount of currency held by the public observed since the onset of the pandemic in early 2020.
